This is a collection of schools laws that affect teachers most directly. This is not a complete listing of all applicable school laws. Please make sure you refer to the Department of Education if you have any legal questions.

 

Title I

“Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.” ~ app.studiesweekly.com

FERPA - Family EDUCATIONAL Rights to privacy act

“FERPA was enacted by Congress to protect the privacy of students and their parents. The act is designed to ensure that students and parents of students may obtain access to the student's educational records and challenge the content or release of such records to third parties.”

Title IX

“Title IX states that: No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

 

School laws 1965-2015

“Special Education Law will cover the following federal laws that effect students with disabilities; the Every Student Succeeds Act, No Child Left Behind, Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and more.”

amendment 14

“The 14th Amendment to the Constitution forbids states from denying any person ‘life, liberty or property, without due process of law’ or to ‘deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.’ By directly mentioning the role of the states, the 14th Amendment greatly expanded the protection of civil rights to all Americans and is cited in more litigation than any other amendment.”
